Wezag, a leader in German tool manufacturing, introduces the CK 130D, the first digital hand crimping tool designed to bring a new level of accuracy and quality assurance to manual connections. This innovative tool integrates a digital control system to monitor and verify every crimp cycle, ensuring perfect, repeatable results that meet the most stringent specifications.
The integrated digital display provides real-time feedback, eliminating the guesswork and variability common with traditional hand tools. This guarantees optimal electrical and mechanical connection integrity, dramatically reducing user error and the need for costly rework.

Our Contribution

In our initial meeting, the Wezag team brought us up to speed with a deep introduction to the world of crimping, their manufacturing processes, company history, and sales models. We then supplemented this information with intensive research across various sectors, from automotive and cabinet construction/pre-assembly to specialized vehicle manufacturing, in order to identify the initial potential and challenges for the redesign.

Following that, we began the concept and design development. The focus was on creating the first digital hand crimping tool, while simultaneously developing a cross-product design language for the entire product family.

In collaboration with the engineering team at WEZAG, we have developed an innovative design solution that integrates three essential functions into a single, high-performance plastic component. This transparent part serves as a light diffuser for an integrated LED flashlight to illuminate the crimping area, acts as a durable protective cover for the display, and features a specialized geometry that forms a flexible button for interface operation.

By consolidating these features, we have significantly reduced the number of individual components, which streamlines the assembly process and minimizes assembly errors. Ultimately, this "less is more" approach ensures tighter tolerances and superior product quality, proving that technical simplification is the key to high-end engineering.
